Nga mihi nui kia koutou, I am currently a Doctoral student in Environmental Science with Ngāi Tahu Research Centre and the School of Biology at the University of Canterbury. My overall interest is cultural-ecological systems of estuaries - places where kaimoana, mahinga kai, are important parts of the ecosystem. Ki Uta Ki Tai in Aotearoa, and Ma Uka Ma Kai in Hawai`i, are the overarching principles that framed my current research. I am using mixed methods, mapping land use with ArcGIS, conducting interviews, and measuring the biological condition and contaminants (food safety) of shellfish. I hope to gain insight into more holistic approaches to environmental management.
