Principal supervisor is Professor Tracey McIntosh (Tuhoe) and co-supervisor is Professor Ngaire Kerse. The thesis for my doctoral research, Kia Piki te Ora: Whanau Wellness, was submitted in July 2020 and I expect to complete the examination process early 2021. My doctoral research explored what whanau wellness means for contemporary urban Maori living in Aotearoa New Zealand, to inform more effective policy and practice for sustainable wellbeing for all Maori. Located within a Transformative-Indigenous research paradigm, the project is grounded in Kaupapa Maori methodology, and incorporated a combination of equity, strengths-based, and social justice approaches. Findings yielded rich descriptions of contemporary Maori perspectives on health, wellbeing and whanau as well as a comprehensive conceptualisation of whanau wellness.
