Associate Professor Margie Hohepa joined the University of Waikato at the start of 2010, after working for the University of Auckland for nearly twenty years. She has also taught in primary school and kōhanga reo.
Margie is the Associate Dean - Māori. She teaches on Māori education undergraduate and graduate courses and supervises honours, masters and doctoral research students across a range of Māori education topics, particularly around the regeneration of te reo Māori.
Margie's field of research is Māori education and is framed by Kaupapa Māori. Recent research activities have focused on Māori educational leadership, schooling improvement in Māori medium settings, the significance of Māori language and tribal marae among youth in the Tai Tokerau region and the development of Ngā Whanaketanga Rumaki Māori. She is currently co-leading a project on Maori medium initial teacher education.
